Quote:
“It is in the home that we form our attitudes, our deeply held beliefs. It is in the home that hope is fostered or destroyed. Our homes are to be more than sanctuaries; they should also be places where God’s Spirit can dwell, where the storm stops at the door, where love reigns and peace dwells.”

Why Does Communication Have To Be So Challenging Sometimes?
It doesn't have to be. When we know the proper way to communicate with one another, we can have happy and successful relationships. This week we talked about communication within the marriage relationship, especially between husband and wife. There was a quote from the text that I really liked, "People in a happy marriages have, more frequently than others, a stimulating exchange of ideas, calm discussions, and times of laughing together" (Lauer and Lauer (2009) Marriage & Family: The Quest for Intimacy, 7th Edition. pg. 209). Marriage is about talking to each other, picking up on none verbal cues, and recognizing ideas and feelings. We also talked about having family councils. We read two talks from Elder Ballard, Strength in Counsel and Counseling with our Councils. I really enjoyed learning more about the proper way to council with our family and with others as well. One of the quotes from Strength in Counsel that I really liked was, "Leadership based on love brings incredible power. It is real, and it generates lasting results in the live of our Father's children." This helps me to remember how important it is to involve everyone in making family decisions, listening to their opinions, and in making the decision as a family. We also talked about balancing work and home, and what the impacts are on the family when the mother goes into the workforce. It seems like spending time together as a family, is more important than anything that could comes with a larger income; for love is spelled T-I-M-E, not M-O-N-E-Y. The Lord will always be there to guide us as we strive to do things according to His way.
